Workaway – a different kind of holiday
Do you want to try a different kind of holiday? Come stay here as a volunteer! You will quickly be a member of the family: you will experience life in a country home, help in the garden, help with the animals, and if you have the skills, you can also do construction work. You get free food and bed in exchange for about five hours of work a day. You will take part in our daily life and when we visit friends, you come along with us!
We take one or two volunteers at a time, more in the summer. You have to be an open-minded person, enjoy new experiences, and be willing to do a good job. Workaway is not a beach holiday! But of course, there will be time for coffee, tea, or a bonfire in the evening and you quickly will feel the famous Danish cosiness.
You have to be able to communicate in English besides your native language. As a volunteer you may stay from one week up to one month.
There is always something to do!
The work in the garden depends on the weather and the time of year, but you can be sure there will be some weeding to be done. The organic garden can grow wild in some corners for permaculture and has to look nice in other parts, so there are always weeds.
The animals need to be looked after all year-round. In the springtime there are small goats to have fun with, but also the big ones are ready for a cuddle anytime.
In the winter, most of the work is inside the house. People with crafting skills or good DIY project ideas are very welcome. Tell us what you are good at when you want to stay here as a volunteer.
Throughout the whole year there are B&B guests and we help each other to clean the rooms and give the guests a good time here.

Accomodation
Volunteers stay in the little guest room when it is free or other places in the house. In the summer you can also stay in the caravan in the garden or in a tent if you want.
In general we have space for one or two volunteers at the same time, but in the summer we can also take some more.
You share the bathroom with us. You are staying here as a part of the family with all the duties in a household, but also the fun of having a good time together.
Internet
Of course there is also free internet for the volunteers.
Working hours
Beside the normal duties in a family, like helping with the cooking and washing the dishes, you will work about 5 hours, 5 days a week.
Other useful information
The island Alsen is situated in South Jutland, 60 km away from the German border. We have beautiful nature you can explore by foot or bikes you can borrow from us. There is a beach close-by for swimming and if you prefer some culture and city life, it is easy to go to Sønderborg by bus Route 223 Sydtrafik (PDF).
Arrival: When I have time, I will come and pick you up in Sønderborg. Otherwise, please take the bus. Our bus stop is called Havnbjerg Piledamsvej.
