The story of the house and more about us
It began in 1785 …
when the miller Jørgen Pedersen built his new home for his family. For that time a very big house. It was built on a difficult underground of clay and a sloping hill that gave space under the house for a big cellar and an extension with a brewery and a bakery. The bakery was pulled down, but the rest of the house is standing solid and strong though it has existed for 232 years.
The small road, Tingstedvej, is going through the property. In the old days it was the main road to Sønderborg. Now it is a sleepy road, which only has very little traffic up to the mill. The main traffic to Sønderborg is passing the house on the other side on Nordborgvej.
The house is full of the charme of the good old days and there are many details with a lot of history. I will welcome you in the hall on a floor with original tiles. The old interior, the big old doors and walls with its crocked angles catch your eye when you enter the house.
The restoration of the house is done with respect for all details and I only use organic and sustainable building materials in the process. I am very willing to tell you about the building process.
About me
In 2008 I fell in love with this old house, and it has been the home for my youngest daughter and me ever since. It is the biggest project I ever started and I renovated the house step by step when I have the time and money for it. I own a big organic vegetable garden, I pickle and preserve the vegetables and fruits, bake my own bread and try to be as self-sufficient as possible. The guests will taste all the good products for the breakfast, which I serve in my own living room. My recipes are not a secret and I am more than willing to hand them on to others. And who knows, maybe you have a good recipy you want to share with me.
I have several educations: ceramist, massage and yogateacher. Now I have a job at a little private school and I teach yoga several evenings in the week.
Besides my family you will meet some other persons in my house as I have volunteer workers staying here from all over the world through workaway. The volunteers help in the house and garden in exchange for food and lodgings and they also learn a lot about danish culture.
Have a look! – We are not alone….
There are several animals on the property. The cats, Mini and Zulu like to cuddle or play if they are not out hunting mice. The chicken deliver eggs for the breakfast table and the two goats keep the grass short and are always ready for a cuddle. In spring from april to july there is even more fun in the goat family, when there will be small ones around.
